Newton Mail (ex CloudMagic) Review

CloudMagic

Netwon Mail is a relatively new email client for Mac users, now available in the Mac App Store after months of developments. The Mac version came after the successful iOS and Android app version. Netwon Mail offers a minimalist and neat design, an intuitive user interface that helps manage and navigate your inbox. The client supports a wide range of best email providers like Outlook, Hotmail, Gmail, iCloud, Exchange, Office 365, Yahoo Mail and IMAP settings.

Thanks to Handoff integration, you can check and write email switching between Mac, iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad: all is synced via iCloud. If you intensively use emails for work, you’ll love the Netwon Mail “distraction-free” email editor that makes email composition similar to write a post on Tumblr: the Reply button opens a clean new window featured by a bold headline-sized subject line. Netwon Mail wants you to focus on what you are going to write, creating an environment free of distractions.

This kind of “distraction-free” interface may hamper the email reading experience: if you have to search an info, you’ll need a lot of back-and-forth from window to window. Maybe you’re going to miss the typical “inbox on the left and opened emails on the right” interface you can find on most Mac email clients.

Nevertheless, Netwon Mail for Mac provides intuitive actions to speed up inbox management: you can bulk archive, delete or mark as read emails by clicking on a checkmark. Selecting a gray area surrounding an opened email message brings you back to the inbox. The search bar is fast enough and helps auto-complete mail addresses.

One of the biggest flaws in Netwon Mail for Mac is the lack of third-party app integrations. Luckily, Netwon Mail for iOS is offering productivity tools integration like MailChimp, Asana, Trello, OneNote, SalesForce, Pocket, and Evernote. But there’s more: your emails can also be saved from the mobile app on Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, and OneDrive — another missing feature in the Mac version.

Netwon Mail pricing is slightly higher than competitors: $49.99/year for the Mac version. A “Sender Profile” option is available as an in-app subscription for $24.99 per year and offers a quick summary of the sender information like job title, organization info, location, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter profiles, details about the sender’s organization and more. Netwon Mail app for iOS and Android is free.

Conclusion

Newton Mail can be the right email client for your needs if you have to manage multiple accounts or go through a lot of emails each day. Shortcut buttons make your inbox management easier.

One Comment

  1. Mobile email is not Neflix. $50 annual subscription is target marketing to the ‘new iPhone every year’ customer base with money to burn. A good app it may be, but obnoxiously pompous business model will lead to it’s demise.
