NASA has released its software catalog for 2017-2018. This catalog includes a lot of free software and royalty-free programs for a wide range of possible uses.
The catalog is incredibly wide: from drones aerodynamics to video compression. Most of the applications can be used in very specific industry, but some of them may be useful also to a common user: an extensive collection of textures and a walking simulator in space are just two practical examples.
The catalog is constantly updated, but let’s see what’s inside, now:
- Business Systems and Project Management: systems for business and project management. 55 are dedicated to software acquisitions, business processes, projects planning, properties, and risk management.
- System Testing: namely software for system testing. We find 67 apps dedicated to acoustics, vibration, pressure and pressure losses testing, aerodynamics systems, inspection, and testing schedule.

- Data server processing and handling: 92 programs for data management, server, router, storage and solving algorithms.
- Propulsion: 52 software for things like engines performance analysis, and cryogenic propellants.
- Environmental Science: air, earth, space, exoplanets. 83 Software to study terrestrial and space environments, radiation and atmosphere.
