Avast Free Antivirus Review

by AVAST Software s.r.o.

Avast develops antivirus software since the late ‘80s, and Avast Free Antivirus is just one of a series of products that can protect your computer from a wide array of malware and danger from the web and beyond. Avast Free Antivirus is the cornerstone of their offering, for without it they can’t properly function.

Avast has a solid core and can protect your PC from malware, phishing and other malicious attacks. It stands out for its thought-out design, spotless and easy to understand to every user, and for the fact that it doesn’t try to sell you every other premium feature, unlike another competitor. It surely has a couple of extra features that are very nice and should be commonplace amongst this kind of software, such as a router scan to discover if it has been compromised and you’re suffering from DNS redirection. This is a feature only included in the premium version of Avast. Be aware also that anti-spam or firewall features are included in this premium version, too, but the software never urges you to upgrade.

Avast core feature anyway is its malware protection accuracy, a task it performs well both in virus detection (even zero-day exploits) and preventing you from installing unsafe software, or all the more avoiding some dangerous code to install itself. As AVG, it has additional tools to wipe your PC from junk files and check if you have to update your software.

Conclusion

Overall, Avast performs very well. In recent years, it has approximately a quarter of the free antivirus market, and we think that it is well earned.
