Postbox Review

Postbox

Postbox

Postbox is one of the oldest alternative email clients for Mac and Windows out there, once characterized by an outdated user interface. A general UI overhaul has considerably improved Postbox usability, making it a noteworthy choice. Postbox offers a few more features than Airmail, a great email client competitor for Mac indeed. The client focuses more than ever on a more efficient email management thanks to functionalities like “account groups” able to blend or separate personal and work email accounts.

Another big plus point is the tab support: you can work on your emails like you do in your web browser, managing specific messages on different tabs. An innovative focus pane offers real-time filters instantly to take a look at unread emails, or on reminders, subscriptions and so on. Custom tags let you arrange your works in topics. Pre-Made Responses is another one of the best features provided by Postbox: you can reuse the same text you often send, saving your time. If you need to save more time, you can take advantage of the Postbox time tracker feature that lets you know how long it takes to compose a message.

No more sending errors: a domain fencing tool prevents you from sending an email from a wrong account. But there’s more: the client helps you target your message by contact. Thanks to a powerful attachments search capabilities, Postbox allows you find and use images and files in your mail, even while you’re composing a new email. Talking about integrations, Postbox works arm in arm with Dropbox, One Drive and Box. It works with best email providers including Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, and iCloud, supporting also POP3, IMAP, and SMTP protocols.

Postbox also shows little flaws: sometimes the interface is cumbersome, the searching icon is still non-retina, and the software lacks native Exchange support. Postbox pricing is reasonable: $15 after a 30-day free trial.

Top

Conclusion

Postbox is an excellent third-party email client for Mac users thanks to well-thought-out and well-implemented features.

Decent mail client (use it in Windows). BUT (a) cumbersome transferring license to another computer, whereas many other apps, namely internet security suites, antimalware, boom 3d…, manage licenses via web account. Suggested that to them quite some time ago, not even acknowledgement on their part. And (b) importing contacts from Gmail (all through my mobile) vs syncing them automatically like eM Client?! Sorry, won’t buy another license. You’re lagging behind competition guys.

    Value:
It’s sinful to charge what they charge and not have a companion app for mobile users. Wake up Postbox dev team, it’s 2021 (TWO YEARS after you launched) and most users (70% +) check their email via mobile devices.
So people pay $30 per year – yes, they changed to a subscription model and decided to milk us into eternity – but you get a system that’s flawed, or hampered by the lack of a complete system.
You tell me how much “value” there is in this app.

    Ease of use:
Because (no matter where I happen to be in the universe), I can generally only check my mail when tethered to a desktop or laptop – I’m obliged to drive home to where my laptop or desktop computers generally reside to check my email!!
Well in that case “ease of use” doesn’t exist from this app.
In other words, IMO this doesn’t answer the full requirements of “flexibility” (that you claim in your tagline).

    Features:
It goes without saying if you don’t have an app for the dominant platform (mobile) your software lacks significant features.
Again, where is the “flexibility” your tagline claims? (ie: “Postbox. A powerful and flexible email client.”)

    Reliability:
I bought the software when they launched, used it while waiting for the mobile companion app. It was very reliable.
However, because I live in the 21st century and need an app for my phone, I stopped using this app. (I will use it again one day when they get their behinds into gear and finally deliver the appropriate software for modern day use).

    Customer support:
Since our pleas for a companion app haven’t been answered in TWO YEARS I guess this shows the worst kind of customer support.

I have had few problems with Postbox over the years excepting with the Apple BIG SUR software I have on 2 Mac Minis and my MacBookPro. In all cases, the Postbox Extension no longer works at all. This means you cannot “share” anything such as JPEGs or PDFs with one click, and have to manually add each and every attachment manually into a new email message you are sewnding.

I reported this problem to their <Tech Support on 21 December 2020, they said that they were unaware of it although BIG SUR had been the primary Apple software system already for months. I expected a patch almost immediately or a newer verison than 7.0.,48 but nothing has been done about this ever since.

  4. I can’t give this thing any stars. It never worked. All efforts at support failed. For example, setting up AOL, Yandex, yahoo, and Zoho I get. “settings, username, or password could not be verified” (Mailbird took less than a minute). I found “help” for AOL, for example. About 3-4 of the “steps” don’t exist. AOL has removed those options or someone is whacked at Postbox. Trying harder to get help, Only $8. I assume that’s their business model. So I try signing in to Postbox. Need to sign up first… “postbox.zendesk.com refused to connect.” I’ve been setting up mail clients for over 30 years, personally and as a professional service. If you want this kind of nightmare, go for it.

This is a disappointing product. For those looking for an alternative to Outlook, it seems appealing. But it is – quite honestly – not up to the job.
We’ve had consistent problems that the programmers cannot or will not address.
Think carefully before buying. In particular, look at their “support” option. That’s right – they charge for support!
    Back to Outlook :(

  7. Umm, Postbox needs a calendar and a signature that works to begin with. They want to charge me $8.00 on the first day of my 30-day trial to ask them how to interface with MacOS calendar? Are you kidding me? Your directions don’t work, Suzy. You need to do better Ms. Greenberg.

I bought it because I wanted a supported version of Thunderbird. Turns out it has actually has less support. They have no help forums, a very minimal help section (which doesn’t even have an article for most major errors – and it is a very unstable system -, how to configure voice dictation with Windows etc), no tutorials (other then the bare minimum) and charge you $8 per issue to actually contact them and get any sort of help (so you either have to pay something like $36 monthly or use a barely functioning program that can’t even save an email). You’ll save time and be less lost if you go to back to college for some random software development and singlehandly bring Thunderbird up to date.

What makes this worse is that they pretend they offer support by their “affordable” helpdesk (at $8 USD an issue? It’s a better cheaper value to pay for premium support for microsoft outlook) and “an error reporting page” (which is a black hole for issues that they’ll never reply to). Can’t they actually be honest?

Sad because before they pulled all this crap, I would have at least rated them 7-8+

I purchased a lifetime license, lulled by the availability of technical support. I was never able to solve an issue where Postbox continually asks for my sign-in credentials. The technical support person eventually concluded the problem is in my computer. The help files on the Postbox site are extensive, confusingly so. You need to study a lot to understand all the settings. It has never worked for me, I am going back to Apple Mail, which is not great (why I tried Postbox in the first place). It does do well searching in the emails. Lately, if you want any technical help it costs $8 per incident, and I am not prepared to pay that just to have someone pass the buck and tell me the problem is in my computer, when everything else is working just fine.

This is a horrible email application to use for a professional, especially the nasty attitude and behavior that I have received from them. They are like NAZI Germans. All I asked a little support and ask them is it just a copy of Thunderbird. They send me a nasty email and they refunded my money without even asking me. It was only a $30 bucks. I thought just buy it and try it to see how it goes. If it would work then I could have bought for y whole company whereas I needed about 500 licenses. I guess they are not looking for any customers. They used profanity and cursed me out by saying I am a nasty Jew and I do not deserve their product!

This email is nothing but a downgraded version of Thunderbird. They have just used some graphics to look different. Actually, Thunderbird works a lot better than this bogus application call Postbox. There are many other email clients. I have using em client for many users. em- Client is not perfect either and they have a lot of bugs and issues. However, at least I have always treated as a human being. I was really sad after their nasty behavior. I was almost crying! Why a company should treat their customers like that. I was just asking those questions myself.

It is obvious that they are not looking for any customers. I urged everyone to boycott these guys. Especially all the Jew and Jewish people not to buy their products. Together all consumers can drive these people out of business completely and we do not need another Nazi to help us with the IT products. These are real SCAM artists and running a fraudulent business. These people are really very very bad people! DO NOT GIVE YOR MONEY TO THESE BAD PEOPLE!

This is an old (and therefore likely irrelevant) review; Postbox has for some time cost $40.00, not $15.00 – though the $40.00 gets you a lifetime license that includes all future updates.

I was able to use PostBox for a short time, but when I needed to re-install the application never functioned properly. Requests to “Support” went unanswered. I learned many other users experienced issues and went back to Mac Mail.
